    Disc slot light

The disc slot of the Wii console will now illuminate whenever a Wii game is inserted into the system. Since this only works with game discs that are programmed to support this feature, this will not work with games that have already been released. The disc slot will also not illuminate if the Photo Channel is running, or if a disc is inserted or removed at any point a channel is being launched.

The Disc slot light will also illuminate If you have WiiConnect 24 turned on (more info) and you have received new data, such as Message Board messages. In order for the light to appear, you must have selected "Bright" or "Dim" in the "Slot Illumination" settings for WiiConnect24 (how to).

Please note that the Disc Slot light does not stay illuminated during game play or when using other features of the Wii console.

    Delayed reaction (video or audio)

    • Check your connection. Do you have the Wii connected through a DVR, such as a TiVo, or satellite system with a built-in DVR?
      • If you are, we recommend connecting directly to the TV or VCR and not the DVR device. These devices intentionally create a slight delay in displaying the picture, which would appear as though you were getting a delayed reaction from your controller.

    • Are you connected to a projection TV? Some models of project TVs can cause a delay when playing video games. Try another television and test for proper response.
    • If you have removed all devices like those described above, and have tried another TV, but are still experiencing the delay, try another Wii Remote with your system.

      • If a different Wii Remote works, the original Wii Remote will need to be replaced. Please click here for repair options.
      • If the problem continues with another Wii Remote, then problem is most likely with the Wii console and it will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

    Time settings incorrect

If the Wii console isn't keeping track of the time when it is unplugged from the wall, then the system's internal battery needs to be replaced. This replacement can only be performed by Nintendo technicians. Please click here for repair options.

If the Wii console does not keep proper time while plugged in, then there appears to be a problem with the Wii console itself and the system will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

Please Note: The Wii uses a 24-hour clock -- also known as "military time" -- rather than a 12-hour clock (for example: 4:00 p.m. appears as 16:00). The clock does not automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time.

    "Insert Start Up Disc" message

If you get an "Insert start up disc" message after powering on your Wii console for the first time, there is an issue with the operating system of the console and it will need to be repaired or replaced. Please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options.
