Troubleshooting Physical Damage

 

This section covers troubleshooting information for physical damage to the Wii console. Please read any troubleshooting information on this page very carefully, to avoid damaging the system any further.

 

 

 

 

 

    Liquid spilled in the system

    Any time liquid is spilled inside a system, unplug it immediately. What to do will depend on what kind of liquid was spilled:

    • Water:
      Let the system dry for a few days. Do not use any type of heat, such as a hair dryer, to speed up the process, as this may cause damage. If the system does not work properly after waiting for a few days, then a repair is necessary. Please click here for repair options.

    • All other types of liquid:
      Because liquids other than water can damage the internal components of the Wii console, a repair is necessary. Please click here for repair options.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    Object inserted into the Disc Slot

    If an object is inserted into the Disc Slot, it will automatically be pulled in, and it won't be possible to eject it. Do not attempt to open the Wii console or otherwise try to remove the object, as it may result in further damage to the console.

    "Residue" left by vinyl sticker

    Some vinyl stickers that can be applied to the outer housing of the Wii console may leave behind a sticky residue when removed. We have found that the following procedure can be used to remove the residue:

    1. Place the fingers of one hand together and wrap a long strip of masking tape around the tips, so that the sticky part is facing outward. Other tape may be used, but we found masking tape to be the most effective.
    2. Dab at the sticky areas of the console with the tape to remove the sticky residue.

    If you are unable to remove the residue, and it is interfering with your enjoyment of the Wii console, then the system will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    System buttons stuck

    Our experience shows that this problem is caused by contamination of foreign material inside the buttons, and the system will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair options.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    SD slot cover won't stay closed

    Our experience shows that this particular problem is caused by physical damage to the either the SD slot cover or the Wii console's plastic housing, and the system will need to be repaired.Please click here for repair options.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    Game Disc is scratched or cracked

  • If the game disc looks "significantly" damaged and cannot be played, we recommend replacing the game disc.

  • If the game disc looks dirty (not scratched), try cleaning cleaning the game disc. Click here for instructions on cleaning a game disc.

 

 

 

 

 

    Exposed to extreme heat or cold

    If the system has been exposed to extreme heat or cold, allow the Wii console several hours at room temperature to return to warm up or cool down.

    If after allowing the system enough time to reach room temperature, and you are still experiencing problems, please use our troubleshooting information to find the problem that the Wii console is having (such as a blank screen).
